Abdul Mallik, a school teacher from Malappuram, India, swims across a river everyday to teach his students.
For the past twenty years, he has completed this journey time and time again. Why does he do this?
In his own words:
“If I go by bus, it takes me three hours to cover the 12-kilometer (7.5 miles) distance,” he told the station. “But swimming through the river is easier, faster and I reach school on time.”
After he crosses, he changes into a fresh pair of clothes and sets off to the school.
For Teacher’s Day in India, his students welcomed him with smiles and cards to show their appreciation.
Think about how far your own teacher will go for you.
