Plot Summary:

Set in 79 A.D., POMPEII tells the epic story (n.史詩) of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator (n.競技戰士) who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed (n.未婚夫/妻) to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent (n.急流) of blazing (adj.燃燒的) lava (n.岩漿), Milo must fight his way out of the arena (n.競技場) in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles (v.崩解) around him.

 

時間是西元79年，《龐貝末日：天火焚城》描述一個史詩故事，故事中的主角名為麥洛，本來身為奴隸，但卻因為戰技高超而變成戰無不勝的神鬼戰士，他必須和時間賽跑來拯救她心愛的女子蓋西亞。蓋西亞是一位富商的女兒，心不甘情不願地跟一個腐敗的羅馬參議員訂婚，變成他的未婚妻。當維蘇威火山爆發，炙熱的岩漿奔流而下，麥洛必須從競技場殺出一條血路，來拯救他的摯愛，此時壯觀的龐貝城在他四周分崩離析。

What and where was Pompeii?

 

The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of the commune of Pompeii. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

 

龐貝是一座羅馬時代的古城，位於現代義大利卡伯尼亞區那不勒斯市的旁邊，屬於古代龐貝城的領地。在西元79年時，因為維蘇威火山爆發，龐貝與海格利斯城還有附近的村庄被摧毀，全數被埋在4到6公尺的火山灰和火山岩石中。

Brief history of Pompeii

Researchers believe that the town was founded in the seventh or sixth century BC and was captured by the Romans in 80 BC. By the time of its destruction, 160 years later, its population was probably approximately 20,000, with a complex water system, an amphitheatre (圓形露天劇場), gymnasium and a port. Pompeii has been a tourist destination for over 250 years. Today it has UNESCO World Heritage Site status and is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors every year.

學者相信龐貝城在西元前6或7世紀時候建立，西元前80年被羅馬人佔領，在該城毀滅的時候，人口有多約2萬人，擁有複雜的水利系統、圓形露天劇場、體育館、和一個港口。龐貝遺跡250年前成為旅遊勝地，聯合國教科文組織更將其列為世界遺產，近來變成義大利最受歡迎的旅遊勝地，每年有大約2千5百萬遊客。
